This was reported last week Evil star Cinzia Erivo she said in an interview that her next dream role would be to play Storm in Marvel’s rebooted X-Men.
It didn’t seem like it was too far-fetched for the rising star to throw her witch’s hat into the ring, but if the rumors are true, the studio already has her on their radar.
In the last episode of The hot mic (via CBM), insider Jeff Sneider said he’s heard there’s “real interest” in enlisting Erivo to play the climate-manipulating mutant.
The reporter also indicated that he is aware of another person (we’re not sure if he’s an actor or director) on the studio’s radar for the project, but he won’t reveal that news for now.
It’s hard to say whether Erivo has actually entered negotiations or is simply a possible contender, but we know she would jump at the chance to play Ororo Munroe, as she previously stated:
“I really want to play Storm. I know it sounds frivolous, but I think we haven’t discovered how great she is and all that inner turmoil she has, so I think there’s a world where we could do something like that.”
It was previously rumored that the studio was looking for actors in the 20-25 age range to play the MCU’s Children of the Atom, which would make sense given that another actor on Marvel’s mind is Stranger things alum Sadie Sinkwho is said to be in the running for the role of Jean Grey.
Although there’s nothing that says every character has to be the same age, and some members of the team couldn’t take on a more mentor/teacher-like role.
We’ll just have to wait and see. Marvel has been pretty quiet about them X-Men films so far. All we know for sure is this Michael Lesslie he is currently working on the script and the next position to be filled is a director. Stay tuned for further updates.
