Good news for fans of David Cronenberg’s The Fly universe. According to Deadline, 20th Century Studios has launched a movie based on the popular horror movie.
The director of the film will be Nikiatu Jusu, the director of the drama “Nanny”. The plot has not yet been revealed, but the publication’s sources say that the film will be part of the universe and not a remake of “The Fly.” Produced by Peter Chernin (“Planet of the Apes”) and Jenno Topping (“Fear Street”).
News of work on the project comes after body horror fashion rose globally thanks to the success of Coralie Farge’s Substance.
The Fly is an adaptation of George Langelaan’s short story, first filmed in 1958. Cronenberg’s film follows scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldbloom), whose teleportation experiments take a horrific turn when his DNA accidentally combines with that of a fly. The film won an Oscar for best make-up in 1987.
