First star fall of this year: what will we see?

The first rain of the year will be seen this weekend. For more than 2.5 thousand years, every spring the inhabitants of our planet have been watching this phenomenon with interest. On April 22 and 23 Muscovites will be able to see the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower. According to the press service of the Moscow Planetarium, at this time 18 meteors per hour will fly from the side of the Earth.

In clear weather, starburst can be observed with the naked eye. In city lights, visibility will be worse than in nature. The best time to watch would be the period from 3am to dawn. The Moon, currently in the first quarter phase, will descend below the horizon and will not illuminate the sky, making it possible to see faint meteors.

Lyrids are one of the oldest active meteor showers.
