There are two types of people: some can’t stand horror movies, while others are ready to watch them drunkenly and seem not afraid of anything. Your obedient film editor is one of the first, but our online marketing director and Food and Travel editor are constantly sharing personal discoveries of this kind with each other. That’s why you can be sure that each of the films below has passed their tough selection.
“The Curse” (2004)
Classic as it is. The curse of the dead awaits a new victim where they live. When another unfortunate person dies, the evil only grows stronger and one day spreads like a damn virus.
“Omen” (2006)
A modern adaptation of Richard Donner’s 1976 film of the same name, about a diplomat (Schreiber) whose young son is unexpectedly revealed to be the Devil. Starring Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, Mia Farrow and others.
“Mirrors” (2008)
A former New York police officer takes a job as a night watchman in the burned down ruins of a department store. One day, he begins to notice something ominous in the decorative mirrors that adorn the walls – something eerie is reflected in the gigantic glowing glass.
“Drag Me To Hell” (2009)
It’s Sam Raimi’s movie that gave us the classic Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire. Christina Brown lives in Los Angeles, works in the credit department of a bank, and meets an attractive and loving boyfriend. Life seemed to be going well until a nasty gypsy came to the bank and asked for the mortgage loan to be delayed. And although the main character is glad to meet halfway, the possibility of promotion looms before him and refuses the old woman. And in response, he puts a curse on the girl as her life turns into a nightmare.
“Astral” (2010)
Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins and more in a thriller from James Wan, author of The Conjuring. A married couple moves into a new house with their children, but before they have time to actually unpack things, strange things begin: objects inexplicably move, strange noises come from the nursery. But the real nightmare for parents begins when their ten-year-old son falls into a coma and all the efforts of the doctors fail. It soon became clear that the boy was in an unconscious state connected with the paranormal world.
“Ominous” (2012)
Ethan Hawke is in a story about a detective writer who moves with his family to a small town and settles in a house where all of its tenants were killed a year ago. Author accidentally finds videos that are key to the mystery of crime. But nothing comes for free: terrible things begin to happen in the house, and the lives of loved ones are now threatened.
“Wizard” (2013)
Ed and Lorraine Warren are paranormal detectives. One day, a family suffering from an evil spirit approaches them. And this case will be the scariest case of their lives.
“The Visit” (2015)
Horror M. Night Shyamalan is in the “found movie” genre. Years ago, the main character escaped from his parents’ house without looking back, and has since tried not to remember the events of that night, and now he has adult children. One day, they receive an invitation from their grandfather, whom they have never seen, and decide to visit them.
“Reincarnation” (2018)
Directed by Toni Collette and Solstice writer Ari Astaire. After the death of his mother in the house of the main character, something incomprehensible begins to happen. Now the lives of loved ones are in danger, and new terrible secrets of the family are revealed every day.
“M3GAN” (2022)
The movie that made a splash on social media this year. Ten-year-old Cady gets into a car accident with her parents. The parents die, and the girl begins to live with her aunt, who is an employee of a company that produces technological toys. Unable to cope with the sudden responsibility that falls on her, and who really does not want to waste time with her niece, Cady introduces an experimental android doll with artificial intelligence, M3gan. The primary duty of the new “girlfriend” is to protect the boy from all kinds of physical and moral harm, and the M3gan takes it literally.
