“Peugeot is committed to the electrification of its range. By 2023, 100% of the vehicles in the range will be electrified and five new 100% electric models will be launched over the next two years. Our ambition is simple: from Peugeot by 2030 the leading electric brand in Europe. This objective and ambitious vision paves the way for a radical transformation of the brand. Today it is embodied in the Peugeot Inception Concept, ushering in a new era. Peugeot promises that the world is a better place with Allure, and the Peugeot Inception Concept embodies the meaning of this promise from today.” Linda JacksonCEO of the brand.
For example, the Peugeot Inception Concept offers a new vision of the interior of a grand tourer in detail, creating new, longer seats, in line with the new ‘BEV-by-design’ architecture dedicated to electric vehicles. The high waistline of the body acts as a safety reinforcement. The front seats provide an exceptional view of the road. The second row of seats offers a better view of the outside world thanks to generous glass surfaces and new seating proportions. Glass fronts on the back of the front seats give second row occupants their own configurable atmosphere. Each material in the passenger compartment is treated according to its reflections. This means that the interior color of the Peugeot Inception Concept changes depending on the driving environment and varies depending on the light. On board, space, comfort and excitement are intensified.
In addition, to make Peugeot an electric brand it means more than just putting batteries and electric motors in our cars. The interior of the Peugeot Inception Concept is the result of advanced research into the profound transformation of the onboard experience. Here, the color black has been completely avoided in favor of new atmospheres created by the combination of light filtered through multicolored glass and relatively neutral metallic materials, which can change the atmosphere of the passenger compartment simply by playing with reflections. The Peugeot Inception Concept is therefore an example of the new techniques that the manufacturer will implement reduce your ecological footprint by more than 50% by 2030 in Europe and become completely ‘Carbon Net Zero’ by 2038.
All seat proportions have been reworked, with more width and immersive comfort: Comfort, with a seat that adapts to the shape of each passenger’s body. The architecture and the apparent structure of the seat are as close as possible to the body. It is no longer about sitting in a car seat, but about setting a new kind of standard, tailored to dynamic driving conditions, or being able to relax while driving has been delegated. The seats of the Peugeot Inception Concept, with their spectacular proportions, provide this comfortable position with headrests that do not extend beyond the waistline of the body. The low seat height enables this new architecture that frees up space.
On board the Peugeot Inception Concept, the entire dashboard is located at the bottom. Facing the seats, the minimal cockpit, which can be retracted when driving is delegated, is exclusive to the driver. With this fully open view of the road, occupants can see and experience more, enhancing the excitement on board.
The Peugeot Inception Concept is equipped with a FOCAL Premium HiFi system, a French brand specialized in Audio HiFi that offers unsurpassed audio sensations. The way of placing the sound in the cabin has been optimally designed by strategically placing the speakers. The system consists of an amplifier, multiple soundbars (each with multiple 100mm coaxial speakers) in the doors and in the front of the cabin. There are also two subwoofers in the floor.
Rethinking vehicle architecture is not enough. The Peugeot Inception Concept goes one step further by creating new solutions to maximize the circular economy. This is how the formed substance was created. Fragments of 100% polyester fabric are recycled and heat-compressed under vacuum at the design center’s or suppliers’ prototype shops, with a resin-injected bond. This technology produces an extremely hard and durable material, which can be converted into a rigid or ornamental part. It can be used for a variety of constructions, such as doors, and does not need to be dressed up with extra parts: the job of the design is to make these previously invisible parts visible.
Based on the principle that a car, even if it is electric, will always consist of at least 50% steel, the idea is to show it raw in its on-board form, in order to limit the number of parts in the passenger compartment. This is the case with the seat structures of the Peugeot Inception Concept or the console. The steel is treated with a galvanization process (zinc coating, including anti-corrosion treatment), which provides a raw aesthetic reflection. This solution is fully in line with the concept, which emphasizes the specific reflections of each of the materials used in the interior. The evocation of raw materials is in the DNA, as it was ten years ago with the copper used in the Onyx concept car.
The seats and floor are upholstered in a very special velvet, 100% recycled polyester, with a metallic effect to play with the light diffused by the glass capsule. This material is 100% recycled. To complement the new views offered by the seats and the unobstructed view of the road, this velvet continues to the floor. It is then printed with 3D patterns to act as a floor mat. The continuity between the seats and the floor can be achieved with a single material. The 3D printing on this flexible textile is revolutionary and 100% recyclable, done in collaboration with STRATASYS.
The comfort of the seats is enhanced by the presence of truly adjustable padding on the shoulders. This easy-to-recycle, single-material, electrically welded upholstery is derived from inflatable bags salvaged from vintage chairs. Normally invisible, this pocket has been treated with a metallic effect to blend in with the seats. It is visible on the armrest and makes it possible to increase comfort tenfold as needed, depending on the driving style. Making visible what was hidden leads to more simplicity, fewer parts and more comfort.
Among all these details and more, the Peugeot Inception Concept presents the brand’s optimistic vision of the future. It embodies the Allure, Excitement and Excellence values of a brand that is transforming and entering a new era. Peugeot Inception Concept will inspire future products, even the most compact, from 2025.
