The benefits of olive oil for hair: tips for use

Almost everyone uses olive oil to dress a salad or add flavor to any other dish. What is less known, however, is that this vegetable oil is ideal for nourishing hair.

Olive oil has more than one trick up its sleeve. Nourishing and sublimating, it has nutritional benefits whose hair (especially dry) and scalp need to maintain a certain level of balance. But do you know how to use it and above all do you know all the benefits it contains? We explain everything to you, just below.

What are the benefits of olive oil for hair?

Olive oil is great for meeting the nutritional needs of dry, textured hair, but it can be effective on all other types as well. His secret? Enhances the color while enveloping the fiber thanks to a special active ingredient…

Olive oil nourishes and repairs the hair fiber

Rich in fatty acidseven olive oil has a good dose of polyphenols (a family of organic molecules that defend themselves particularly well against external aggressions). This high-altitude composition allows it deeply nourishes the hair fiber and repairs it. You can thus apply it directly on the lengths, but also on the scalp with small circular massages. This way you will activate blood microcirculation in the area by pampering the hydrolipidic film so important for the protection of the scalp.

Olive oil revives the color

As it is rich in polyphenols and vitamins, lolive oil revives the color and makes it fade less quickly. The reason for this phenomenon? By applying oil to your lengths you will protect hair from the harmful effects of UV rays and lime water. But that is not all! The composition of your shampoos (more or less aggressive depending on what they contain) will corrode the pigments less quickly. A real plus!

Be careful not to use it at the wrong time.. If olive oil is beneficial for your coloring, it is important not to apply it directly when you return to the hairdresser but rather a week or two after.

How to apply olive oil on hair?

There are several ways to apply olive oil to your hair. Here are 2 of them.

Olive oil in the hair mask

In order for the fatty acids and vitamins of olive oil to deeply nourish your hair, you can apply it as a mask directly on the lengths and scalp (optional depending on hair type). For maximum effectiveness, you can mix your olive oil with two tablespoons of honey to coat your hair, but you can also use it on its own. Leave on for at least 1 hour (you can leave it overnight). And rinse.

Olive oil as a pre-shampoo treatment

To nourish, hydrate but also facilitate hair detangling there is a technique called pre-poop. It consists of applying a mixture of vegetable oil(s) (olive oil in our case) and honey or shea butter to the lengths and scalp. Leave it on for half an hour under a cap intended for this purpose and wash your hair as usual. Repeat this gesture before each shampoo and you will get hair that is more sheathed and nourished than ever.

Which olive oil to choose for your hair?

For olive oil to retain all of its benefits, it has to be extra virgin and cold pressed. It will thus retain all its essential fatty acids and will not lose its vitamins.

Are there any contraindications to using olive oil for hair?

Unlike coconut oil, which is not always suitable for all scalp types due to its occlusive properties, olive oil, has no contraindications. You can use it on your lengths as well as at your roots without difficulty if its quality is optimal.

On the other hand, daily use is not necessarily beneficial for all hair types. Because even though olive oil pampers the scalp, it may unbalance it if you have combination with oily nature.
