David Levy, the former longtime president of Turner Networks, was named co-CEO and equity partner of Horizon Sports & Experiences, a startup marketing agency of branding giant Horizon Media, on Monday.
Levy, also a founder of Back Nine Ventures Llc, will work with former Momentum Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Weil on the new company, a combination of Horizon’s Scout sports and entertainment division that serves clients through sports and experiential marketing will lead Michael Neuman, head of scouting, will become EVP of HS&E, reporting to Levy and Weil.
According to Horizon, Horizon Sports & Experiences will have a core focus on intellectual property creation and monetization; strategic advice and consultancy; media rights; sponsorship; Sell; and experimental strategy and activation. Horizon Media’s Metaverse consulting firm Chapter & Verse will also be combined with the HS&E offering.
Levy left Turner in March 2019 after nearly 33 years following WarnerMedia’s then-AT&T merger; He joined Turner in 1986 as an account manager. As president of Turner, he oversaw the company’s portfolio, including TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, truTV, Turner Classic Movies, Bleacher Report and Turner Sports, and led Turner’s two domestic revenue divisions, advertising sales and distribution led.
“Throughout my career, I have had tremendous opportunities to build and grow some of the world’s most valuable brands by creating and identifying partnerships, content and value propositions that deliver consistent value to their audiences across sports and entertainment platforms and experiences,” Levy said in a press release today. “But I know that in today’s ever-changing media landscape, there are even more opportunities to develop powerful new IP destination opportunities and to help existing and emerging sports leagues navigate new distribution platforms, sponsorships and sales. To this end, we will also seek opportunities to use available capital for strategic acquisitions to expand these opportunities and accelerate the impact of HS&E on our customers. I am pleased that all of our clients, including those who come to me from Back Nine to HS&E – Top Rank Inc., Learfield and others, will receive expanded services and opportunities in this merged buy and sell brand, which is further strengthened by Horizon ‘s in will -Deep insights into consumers and analytical offerings.
Weil ran Momentum, an experimental marketing company of Interpublic Group, for the last 20 years before stepping down to take the HS&E role; Momentum said in a press release today that he will remain chairman until the end of the year and in an advisory capacity until 2023.
