Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka wins the British Booker Prize. The author received this title for the book “The Seven Bears of Maali Almeida”. This is reported on the Booker website. The award was presented to the author by Queen Consort Camilla of Great Britain. As a reward, Karunatilaka will also receive 50 thousand dollars (3 million rubles at the current exchange rate).

The story takes place in Sri Lanka during the 1980s civil war. The story is about the soul of a deceased photographer who doesn’t know who killed him and tries to bring his living loved ones to the photo cache. He hopes the photos will go public and surprise the country. But Maali Almeida does not have much time: everything is only a week (seven months).
