When it comes to beauty, some will tend to listen to their instincts and others will prefer to use methods tested and approved by professionals. For the latter, the famous make-up artist Lisa Eldridge gave, long ago, one of the techniques he regularly uses on his most famous clients to get a smooth, dewy and full of incandescence. His name is simple: the patchwork.
The concept ? Map the face to define which product should be applied based on the specific needs of each area. Serum, moisturizer, firstfoundation, concealer, powder… All treatments are applied rigorously and perfectly mixed together to obtain a tailored and uniform result without the “wax doll” effect.
But why adopt such a technique? Well, Lisa Eldridge has a very simple answer to this question: “The skin has areas that are drier than others and fatter than others, so the patchwork technique ensures that all needs are met”.
Who is patchwork for?
It’s easy, the patchworkit is for all people who have a little time to spare and want to get beautiful skin by betting the right care applied in the right places. “Patchwork is great for all skin types because it involves wisely placing products designed to work with your skin tone, rather than against it.”explains to makeup artist Esther Edeme Glamor United Kingdom. She continues:
“If you have very dry skin that tends to absorb shine, applying moisturizing and lightening treatments and foundations with fluid textures to dry areas will complement your complexion more than a moisturizer and a unique primer that can overdry your sebum and deprive the skin. your natural brightness. “
If you have rather oily skin, however, gel-type creams and serums are recommended. They will replace heavy moisturizers that will leave your skin glowing (but not necessarily better hydrated) and your pores visible. Using a mattifying cream on the areas most prone to excess sebum (such as the forehead, nose and chin) can be a good idea. Finally, Lisa Eldridge recommends applying a foundation with bamboo extract to regulate the sebum and do not hesitate to dust the skin as a finishing touch.

An effective technique that takes time
Although Lisa Eldridge’s technique shows more than conclusive effects on the skin, her technique still has one major flaw: it takes a while ! Already to establish which routine is best suited to your skin but also to apply, step by step, the different products that will allow you to obtain a beautiful and luminous epidermis. On the other hand, once this routine starts adjusting to your habits, it can be done in minutes! But the beginnings remain a bit long, it must be admitted.
Patchwork = layering?
Well no, they are two very different techniques. If the stratification is based exclusively on the accumulation of layers of care without distinction of areas and needs, the patchwork it is more focused, which is its strong point. With the latter method there is no risk of “suffocating” the skin and is simply applied the right products in the right places. A rather important difference, especially when you have a rather mixed epidermis, which benefits from the use of different treatments depending on the areas of the face.
