A guide to trendy outerwear this fall: bomber jackets, sheepskin coats, biker jackets and waist-hugging coats

Traditionally, we mark the beginning of each season with material on the main trends. In the first week of the cold September, we managed to tell you about the current tones of autumn and the winning color combinations, as well as to make fashionable shoes and a must-have guide. Now it’s time to rhyme all this with outerwear (without it, nowhere in our climate, the first days of autumn).

This season, designers are betting on bomber jackets and biker jackets, fitted coats and non-classic trench coats, leather and faux fur, and don’t forget the good old plus sizes. Today we propose to consider everything in order. We’ve rounded up eight of the best outerwear trends to watch out for right now.

It’s nearly impossible to count the exact number of biker jackets appearing on the podium this year. And not because we didn’t try, but because both designers in her collection decided to pay homage to the brutal culture. For example, we saw a short biker jacket in Saint Laurent’s fall-winter collection, Coperni turned a leather jacket into a skirt and Gabriela Hirst created a trench coat with distinctive elements for Chloé. Another good option has come from Alexander McQueen, but our favorite remains the Alexandre Vauthier biker jacket.

Behind the bikers, racers and their famous jackets entered the new season. There weren’t that many models on the catwalk (we liked the Christian Dior and Balmain options best), but on the streets of cities and on social media posts – more than enough. Street style heroes and fashion trendsetters have been browsing the vintage stores for a few months.

They say fashion and cold are incompatible things. To everyone who thinks the same, we want to tell you about the next trendy thing – a sheepskin coat. This outfit will easily save you from the uncomfortable heat on the street and will not force you to compromise on style. Excellent fur coats in the autumn-winter collections were seen at the Sacai fashion show and in the Sandro and Eytys travel books.

By 2022, almost all major players in the fashion industry have decided to abandon the use of natural fur in favor of artificial. Therefore, we are now seeing more and more images that say “no animals were harmed” in their latest fall-winter collections. Our favorites are the Saint Laurent, Balmain and Off-White fur coats.

Trench coats are timeless classics that designers refer to from season to season. For their fall/winter 2022 collection, the creative directors decided to get creative with cuts and prints and came up with intricate patterns of essential wardrobe item. Coperni made it minimalist with slits, Burberry different materials and Christian Dior floral print.

Despite Julia Fox’s best efforts, in the fall, you want more than ever to wrap yourself in a coat a few sizes larger. If such a desire sounds familiar to you, feel free to choose an oversized jacket with an emphasis on the shoulders. As in the Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Stella McCartney shows.

However, the age of plus size is slowly but surely making its way towards its end. More and more sitting silhouettes appear in the collections of fashion brands, and designers focus on the figure. By the way, this applies not only to women’s fashion, but also to men’s fashion. Take at least the latest Saint Laurent show, where Anthony Vaccarello literally portrayed Saint Laurent’s style. Therefore, if you are tired of oversized coats, do not hesitate to choose a model that emphasizes the waist. You will not guess.

The last (but not least) trend is bomber jackets. This outfit is back in our lives thanks to a new wave of interest in college aesthetics – we’ve seen similar models at the Off-White and VTNTS shows. Let’s not forget that the bomber’s history goes back to the days of propeller airplanes, when pilots wore the leather jacket model known as the A-2. So all we see on the podium is a reconsideration of the pilots’ uniforms.
