HBO takes fans back to Westeros A knight of the seven kingdomsand the network has just released the first official poster of the highly anticipated game of Thrones spin-off series.
The new graphics features Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, better known as “Dunk”, and Dexter Sol Ansell as his young squire and secret Targaryen prince, “Egg”.
A knight of the seven kingdoms is charging ahead as the next major game of Thrones expansion. Filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the series recently wrapped production and will premiere next January on HBO and Max.
The show will reportedly be smaller in scope and more personal than game of Thrones AND House of the Dragon. Co-creator Ira Parker explained how that stripped-back approach also influenced the show’s title sequence:
“All the decisions were up to Dunk, who tried to channel the kind of person he is in every aspect of this show, even in the title sequence. The title sequences in the original [Game of Thrones] and House of the Dragon are big, epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi’s score is orchestral, expansive and beautiful. That’s not really Dunk’s modus operandi. It’s clear, simple and straight to the point. He doesn’t have much talent in him.”
Claffey and Ansell join Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country) as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel (The crown) as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford (Beautiful little things) in the role of Tanselle, Daniele Eng (The Lords) as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell (Fargo) as Maekar Targaryen.
The series fits George R. R. Martin’S Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, set nearly a century before the events of game of Thrones. The story follows Dunk, the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and Egg, the future King Aegon V Targaryen, as they embark on a journey through a still troubled Westeros.
The official synopsis for the series reads: “Set in a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful enemies and dangerous quests await these unlikely and incomparable friends.”
Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Knight Errant will adapt Martin’s first story, The Errant Knight (1998). If the series continues, HBO plans to continue with adaptations The sworn sword (2003) e The mysterious knight (2010).
A knight of the seven kingdoms will debut in January 2026 on HBO and Max.
