Yandex sold Zen, bought Delivery Club, left Novosti and will change the homepage
“Yandex” announced several news at once. The company buys the Delivery Club food and grocery delivery service from VK and buys VK, Zen and Novosti services from it. Yandex will also have a new homepage and an updated app.
The agreement between Yandex and VK is scheduled to be closed in the coming months, it must be approved by the Federal Antimonopoly Service. Yandex’s press service announced that after the closing of the deal, Delivery Club and Yandex Food will switch to a single technological platform that will help increase the number of orders and improve working conditions for employees.
says the press release.
“Yandex” will leave the news aggregator, the new homepage will be ya.ru. This will be the main entry point to the search page, mail and other services. The company has already shown what the search engine will look like: the page looks minimalist in the spirit of Google.
– announced the press service.
The old address – yandex.ru – will redirect users to dzen.ru, which is already owned by VK. As a result of the integration with VK for “Zen” writers, “there will be opportunities to realize themselves in new formats and reach a new audience,” according to VK general manager Vladimir Kiriyenko.
The Android app will change its name to “Yandex Start” and run as a browser. The iOS app will remain the same, but “News” and “Zen” will not.
The agreement between Yandex and VK has become an occasion for memes: for example, photos of tender relations between Yandex Food delivery couriers and Delivery Club, which regularly appear on the network, have become especially relevant.
Earlier, the network discussed that Yandex plans to move all its employees to Tel Aviv. As the Israeli press wrote, the CEO of the group of companies Arkady Volozh even sent a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and other politicians to discuss the possibility of assisting Russian specialists and providing them with simplified employment procedures. The press service “Yandex” denied this news.
In early July, The New York Times published an article about how the special operation in Ukraine affected Yandex, which the publication called “the coolest Russian company.” The company’s “fall” was said to symbolize the “economic and cultural problems” that arose in the country after February 24.
