Briton Neil Scallan has become a true legend among board game collectors. Over the course of 25 years, he collected 4,379 different editions of Monopoly and was included in the Guinness Book of World Records four times. Now he dreams of a round number – 4500, and ideally 5000 copies.

Scallan bought his first set when he was 30; A classic Monopoly game featuring Mr. Monopoly on the box. The hobby has since grown into a large-scale collection that takes up an entire warehouse in Middlesex. “They spent the whole day there when Guinness came to count the jerseys,” he recalls.
Every new release is after Neil. His collection includes the rarest of versions: limited anniversary editions, special corporate editions and even a unique Park Hyatt Sydney hotel set that can only be obtained after spending the night there. “I managed to find a guest online and he sold me his game,” says the collector.
According to his calculations, he spent about 400 thousand lira (about 27 million rubles) over the years. Note ed.). The most expensive set is the silver edition from London, priced from 2,500 pounds (270 thousand – Note ed.). But according to Scallan, the fun is not in the game, but in collecting: “As soon as you open the box, you lose 90% of its value. I keep almost all the sets sealed.”
For Monopoly’s centennial in 2035, Scallan dreams of opening an exhibition of his collection. “Maybe someone will give me a place in the city to show all the sets. That would be incredible,” the man said. In the meantime, he continues to search for new copies because, as the collector himself admits, “there is always another set that no one knows about.”
