Sigourney Weaver meets the studio for Ripley’s return and previews the “extraordinary” idea for ALIEN

The last time we saw each other Sigourney WeaverEllen Ripley on screen in the 1997 film Alien: ResurrectionWeaver just gave fans new hope that the iconic character might not be done fighting the xenomorphs after all.

During a special Alien During the New York Comic Con meeting, Weaver revealed that she recently met with studio executives about the possibility of returning to the franchise.

The actress explained it Alien producer Walter Hill has already written a new version of Ripley’s story and it looks like it could be something interesting! Weaver said during a conversation moderated by Josh Horowitz:

“[Alien producer] Walter Hill is a good friend of mine and he wrote 50 pages about where Ripley would be now, and they’re really extraordinary. I don’t know if it will happen, but I had a meeting with Fox or Disney…

“I’ve never felt the need [to reprise the role]. I always thought, “Let her rest, let her recover.” What Walter wrote seems very true to me, as it is about society incarcerating someone who tried to help humanity, but she is a problem for them, so she is a bit hidden.

“I think it’s a very strong first 50 pages. I’m thinking about working with Walter to see what the rest of the story would be.”

It’s an incredibly hot tease! It seems like Hill’s idea tackles more than just alien creatures and chaos, but delves into what Ripley represents in a world that has always been ready to exploit and discard her.

The panel also had a surprise when Weaver was joined Veronica Cartwrightwho played Joan Lambert Ridley Scottis the original 1979 classic.

The two reflected on the film’s lasting impact and how Alien initially shocked audiences who had no idea what lay ahead. Cartwright said:

“They didn’t give [the cast] a first. I went to the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood and saw it for myself, and when the chest exploded [scene] it happened, people got up from their seats and left the theater. No one had seen anything like it. It was really really impressive.

Over four decades later, the Alien the legacy continues to evolve. FX recently wrapped the first season of Alien: Earth, Noah HawleyThe universe is expanding to the small screen and fans are still hungry for more Ripley.

While we wait to see if Weaver’s meeting with the studio will lead to Ripley’s long-awaited return, the actress isn’t slowing down. She’s already set to appear in next summer’s Star Wars movie The Mandalorian and Groguwhich means he’s trading one type of alien for another.

If Walter Hill’s screenplay is truly as “extraordinary” as Weaver says, I’d like to see it made—maybe we haven’t seen the last of Ellen Ripley yet.
