Anna Netrebko’s concert in Germany canceled due to “undecided distance” with Putin
Anna Netrebko
After the opera diva Anna Netrebko publicly condemned the special operation, some Western theaters continued to cooperate with her, and Anna continued to perform in Europe. She has planned a tour of Germany for the summer and autumn, but now it is known that the concert, which will take place on September 3 in Stuttgart, will not be. Officials of the state of Baden-Württemberg, especially the state’s Finance Minister Danial Bayaz (Green Party), opposed the proposal.
The show was supposed to take place in the square near the New Castle (Das Neue Schloss), but it belongs to the state of Baden-Württemberg, specifically the Ministry of Finance is located there, so the authorities banned it and already informed the concert organizers. At the same time, 97% of concert tickets designed for four thousand spectators have already been sold, according to the organizers. Tickets currently available cost between 173 and 191 Euros.
Sebastian Engelmann, spokesman for the finance minister, announced the cancellation.
Danial Bayaz warned in March that he should “reasonably” distance Netrebko from Putin and only then be able to perform on September 3.
At that time, Bayaz said.
According to the Stuttgarter Zeitung, Anna Netrebko did not speak out against Putin, although she publicly opposed the operation after being criticized for her silence. In June, the singer announced in an interview with Die Zeit that she wanted to “fight all Russian hostility” by performing the Russian repertoire on stage.

It is not yet known what legal consequences the cancellation of the concert might have. Organizers Christian Doll of C2 Concerts and Peter Schwenkov of Deutsche Entertainment AG declined to comment. But the ministry’s press service said there is no written contract with the organizers.
Engelmann explained.
According to him, it is still possible to give a concert in the castle, but not with the participation of Anna Netrebko.
The New York Times previously reported that Netrebko was considering suing the Metropolitan Opera for $350,000 in damages. The American Opera House upheld Netrebko’s performance ban even after denouncing the special operation.
Reinhard Zell, the organizer of the opera singer’s concert in Regensburg on July 22, said that in order to support Netrebko in Germany, the Germany tour should start. Zell says he is happy that the nearly sold-out 3,000-seat concert is taking place on private property, so politics cannot interfere with the event’s plans. For Zell, it’s important to stick to conventions and see Anna Netrebko as an artist, not a politician.
