In Joanna’s apartment: “I feel good in my truck, so I feel good everywhere”

Between life in the open air, freedom, van life and incredible landscapes.

For those who have known Madmoizelle for a while, remember our section “In the apartment of …” ? Stopped in 2017, it is back in service now.

For this ninth episode we will visit Joanna’s RV, which makes us want to go far, far away.

In Giovanna’s apartment

In Joanna’s apartment: “I feel good in my truck, so I feel good everywhere”
  • What is your name and your age?

I’m Joanna and I’m 25 years old.

  • What do you do for a living ?

I am a nurse.

  • What is the pedigree of your apartment? (location, how many square meters, monthly fee or purchase price)

Basile is a 2004 Eden 601 challenger camper. It is 6 m long and 2.70 m high. She had 65,000 km on the odometer when she was bought and it cost me 24,000 euros.

  • You live alone?

Yup ! But I am often accompanied.

  • If you had to give a word or phrase to describe your accommodation, what would it be?

Nomadic. Basile allows me to be a nomad and to be everywhere at home. It is a freedom and a comfort that I love.

  • If you were to interview your apartment, what would be its positive and negative aspects?

The good points of Basil is that he is himself. This is a camper that met all my criteria. It is small and not too tall and at the same time very spacious. I can go from the cockpit to the driver’s seat without getting out of the vehicle (it was one of my first safety criteria). The shower and toilet are separate, there is plenty of storage space and even a small oven (for the pizzas are the best!) It has many windows and a large skylight. It is very bright.

The negative points, but this is the concern of all trucks, the water supply is too small for my taste. 100 L go fast! Another negative point: fuel consumption! Basile consumes a lot, really a lot and as regards the price of diesel … we lose our freedom!

  • Can you show us one (or more) objects that we can only find at home? An object found, manufactured, inherited …
  • First of all Jeffrey, the mascot, a small stuffed orca found at the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco. I am passionate about marine mammals and especially killer whales and I dream of going with Basile to Norway, I hope Jeffrey takes us there!

  • I have an exact polymer clay replica of my Maitika mare next to my bed. My mare is an important part of my life, so she accompanies me here too. I also have one of his irons near the front door.
Joan_9
  • The baptismal medal my great-grandmother gave when I was born. I am not baptized and she was tired of it. It is a small gift, because it is thanks to her that I was able to buy Basil and thus live the life I have always dreamed of!
Joan_16
  • I have a tourniquet for blood sampling, this is the tourniquet with which I did my very first blood test in the first year of nursing school. I was very proud and managed to hold the tourniquet.
Joan_13
  • IS that you had a big cracked wallet for something in your house?

I had to equip a minimum Basile that I had it, I made many purchases, like a camping table and chairs, a hose to fill the water … I would say that I enjoyed myself on the sheets, I took the linen! This is the first time I’ve put so much money in a duvet cover! Nothing crazy, but Basil was the big wallet himself.

Joan_11
  • What are your decorative quirks?

I love decoration and I love the fact that my home represents me, but with Basile I am quite limited when it comes to decoration. I will say that my little craze since living in a mobile home is to only take things that don’t break and fix everything!

  • Where do you feel most at home?

Everywhere in Basilio. Whether it was while driving, cooking, relaxing on the bed or peeing from the open window overlooking the mountains. The advantage is that I feel good in my truck and therefore feel good everywhere, no matter where I am parked.

  • What is the music that plays most often in your home?

I listen to everything but my favorite music is Jimmy de Moriarty and she comes at least once a day when I’m out and about.

  • Do you follow Instagram accounts for decoration inspiration?

Yup ! I follow many Instagram accounts of travelers who are involved in setting up or restoring trucks!

  • Do you have work or decoration projects?

Yup ! I would like to take some things out of Basile, in particular to finish changing the curtains and seat covers. Finally, in the medium term, I would like to repaint and repair the Basile’s exterior. There are small snags that I would like to fix and I would like to paint the gray frame in a softer, more vintage color. I would also like to remove the stickers and why not find an artist to make a small painting on the side!

Joan_19
  • How long do you see yourself living in your home?

All my life ! Although I know Basil will be tired one day. I will find him a successor! Living in a truck allows me to bring my values to life, refocus and focus on what really matters. Sometimes it’s not obvious every day, especially as a young woman. Sometimes people don’t take me seriously, people look at me when I get out of my truck or when I park. But in general I have met great people and this lifestyle suits me completely and is really compatible with the nursing profession.
