With just 113 days until the Winter Olympics in Italy, organizers have already promised one of the biggest spectacles in history. Representatives of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 announced at the press conference held in Milan that the opening ceremony will be dedicated to the legendary designer Giorgio Armani.

According to WWD, the foundation’s president, Giovanni Malago, stated that it was “a belated but well-deserved recognition of a man who became a symbol of Milan and all of Italy.” Armani and his brand have been associated with sports for many years; Emporio Armani EA7 series is the official partner of the Italian Winter Sports Federation, which produces equipment for the national team.
The ceremony, called Armonia (translated as “Harmony”), will take place on February 6, 2026 in several cities at once: Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Bormio, Livigno and Predazzo. In Milan, the Olympic flame will be lit in Arca della Pace, and in Cortina d’Ampezzo – in Piazza Dibona. The main part of the show will take place this evening at the legendary San Siro stadium, which will turn into a huge stage for 75 thousand spectators.
Marko Balic, creative director of the ceremony, said that his main idea was to unite Italy and show the world a new, inspiring and open country. “The real stars of the Games are the athletes, and our job is to make the ceremony welcoming and humane,” he said. It is known that actress Matilda De Angelis will also take part in the show and a round stage with interactive LED screens will be installed in the center of the arena.
Let us remind you that the Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo will be held between 6-22 February 2026, and the Paralympic Games will be held between 6-15 March. The closing ceremonies of the Olympics and the opening ceremonies of the Paralympic Games will be held at the Arena di Verona. It is estimated that the opening ceremony will be watched by more than two billion people worldwide.
Let us remind you that the fashion designer passed away on September 4. The fashion house said in its statement: “The Armani Group announces with infinite sadness the death of its creator, founder and tireless inspiration, Giorgio Armani.” On September 6, a farewell ceremony was held for the designer in Milan.
