Today, Lizo announced via social media that she plans to release a new version of the song GRRRLS to remove the sp*z depicted in the previous version.
“I realized that ‘GRRRLS’ in my new song is a hurtful word,” he wrote in a Twitter post. “Let me say one thing: I never want to promote derogatory language. “As a fat black woman in America, I used so many disgusting words against myself, so I (knowingly or in my case, unintentionally) will get over the words,” she continued. “I am proud to say that there is a new version of GRRRLS with a lyric change. This is the result of my listening and acting. As an influential artist, I am determined to be a part of the changes I hope to see in the world.”
The lyrics of the song are: “Hold my bag, bitch, hold my bag. Do you see? I’m a sp**z.”
People were quick to take up the text as one of the Twitter users addressed it and explained why the word was harmful to the disability and mental illness community.
