Viola Davis she’s been playing DC Comic character Amanda Waller for about a decade, even before that James Gunnthe entry into the DC Universe. It started with David Ayer Suicide squad (2016), and it was one of the few that Gunn stuck with when he remade the film The suicide squad (2021).

He reprized his role in small, uncredited cameos in both seasons Peacemakerand the movie Black Adamboth in 2022, and also voiced Amanda Waller in several episodes of Gunn’s animated series Commando of creatures.

But the plan was always to have a character-driven series, so what happened to that? We finally have an update!

A few weeks ago, Gunn provided an update while attending the Peacemaker season 2 red carpet premiere, saying that while work has begun on the Waller series, several other projects have since taken precedence over the series.

“We’re working on it, but you know some things have moved very quickly and some not so quickly – and this was one thing that hasn’t moved so quickly. But I can’t wait to see Viola wear her Waller dresses, with her… floral dresses and do something special.”

Then this week, Gunn sat down to chat with Charlie Schneider on his Emergency Awesome YouTube channel (via SuperHeroHype), and explained that the show is still in development. According to Schneider, Gunn said that the scripts were still in the works and that the series would address a handful of things about the character.

According to Gunn, Schneider noted that the show will follow what Waller did during the DC Studios events. Superman film, the second season of Peacemakerand the sequel to Superman, The man of tomorrow.

The Superman sequel will be released in the summer of 2027, so it looks like we’ll have to wait at least two years for the Waller series, but it makes sense if the show is still in development. Gunn has a busy production schedule as head of DC, but it’s nice to know that this project hasn’t gone by the wayside. Stay tuned for more updates on DC Studio.
