Kid Creole, part of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the first rap group inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for murder in the New York courthouse.
Creole, whose real name is Nathaniel Glover, is accused of stabbing a homeless man in 2017. His trial began on Friday.
The rapper claims defense in the case. Creole allegedly hit John Jolie twice with a steak knife after he got mad because, according to his advocate for him, he thought Jolie was gay and beat him.
The knife-cutting incident occurred while Creole was on his way to technical work in Midtown Manhattan at midnight on August 1, 2017. Jolie apparently asked him, “What’s going on?” to accelerate the controversy. .

Celestine also said that Jolie died in the hospital from a dose of sedative benzodiazepines, not from a knife.
Grandmaster Flash and Furious Five are known for their 1982 rap song “The Message”. The group formed in the Bronx in the late 1970s and became the first rapper inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
