A new study on Canadian scientists has revealed an unusual connection between birth and mental health: Men born in summer suffer from depression in adulthood. Moreover, women are not observed in women.

The study was conducted by Kantlen Polytechnic University experts in Colombia. 303 met with adult participants and compared the months of birth to anxiety and depression. The results showed that men born in summer reported more often depressive symptoms than those born in another time of the year.
Michael Mokonen, one of the authors of the study, said that the project idea was born from a accidental question about the signs. The scientist wondered if there was a biological basis for the connection between the date of birth and the mental situation. Researchers argue that the case may be in environmental factors that a woman is exposed to during pregnancy – for example, the amount of sunlight and air temperature.
Although seasonal emotional disorder is well known by medicine, especially in connection with winter depression, the effect of birth on mental health is still very small. The authors acknowledge that their work has restrictions: a short choice of participants, a short data collection period and the dominance of students among the participants.
However, the results are already pushing new problems: why men are vulnerable and how the summer conditions of pregnancy are fully affecting future children. Scientists plan to continue examining this connection by adding variables such as the mother’s nutrition and hormonal background to the analysis.
In the meantime, now a new disease on the network – they are talking about digital depression. Read our material if you feel worrying calls (fatigue from endless information noise).
