The eight-episode limited series is about Maip Giz (Paul), a 20-something secretary who doesn’t hesitate when her boss Otto Frank (Schreiber) asks her to hide from the Nazis during World War II. For the next two years, Maip, her husband Ian (Cole), and various other everyday characters hid the eight souls in a secret enclosure. It was Mip who found Anna’s diary and kept it for her and Otto to share with the world later. The title of the show comes from a quote that Giz said later: “I don’t like being called a hero because no one should feel like they have to be special to help others. Even an ordinary secretary, a housewife, or a teenager can turn on a small light in a dark room.”
Cassar plays Edith Frank, a proud, intelligent and dignified woman. Margot and Anna’s mother treats motherhood with a sincere and unwavering love, but sometimes feels strong towards their young daughter. A perfectionist by nature, Edith always tries to maintain her appearance, even under heavy pressure, and does her best to adapt as an immigrant to an awkward and suddenly very hostile environment.
Bulle portrays Anne Frank as funny, mean, and often stubborn. She values her family and friends deeply and is honest about crime. Anna has no filter: if she thinks something, she will say it.
Brooke is Margo Frankie, naturally shy and rule follower, but has a kind and loving heart. She is wise and cautious she cares a lot about how others, especially adults, see her.
Rutter and Phelan wrote the series and served as executive producers and showers. Fogel will direct the pilot as well as additional episodes and will co-produce with Peter Traugott of Keshet Studios; Alon Struzman of Keshet International; and Keshet Media Group Avi Nir. Principal photography will begin in the summer of 2022 in Prague and Amsterdam.
