TASS, citing the head of the Moscow Registry Office, Svetlana Ukhaneva, reported that this year in the capital, boys were most often called Mikhail, and girls – Sofia.
Since the beginning of the year, the registry office has registered more than 2,200 children named Mikhail in the city. The second most popular name was Alexander, while Leo ranked third. Parents also often called their sons Maxims, Marks, Ivans, Artems and Matveys.
Among female names, Sofia took first place. This was the name given to girls 1,800 times in Moscow. Anna and Maria are also in the top three. The ten most popular also included Eva, Victoria, Vasilisa, Varvara, Alexandra, Polina and Alisa.
Unusual male names include Yaropolk, Romeo, Peresvet, Lucifer, Socrates, Rook, Mirage, and female names include Fedora, Siren, Svetozara, Vladimir, Vlastelina, Europe, Iva, Cleopatra, Luna, Muse, Neva, Crystal and Sugar.
The most popular birth dates since the beginning of the year have been July 5 and August 8. When we look at it on a monthly basis, most babies are born in July.
