All year long we’ve watched stars fall in love and divorce, played our favorite hits on repeat and cheered on the collapse of sports. Who was the couple of the year, the biggest names, the names that the audience watched the most this year and other details of the upcoming Year of the Dragon read our article.
We needed to combine the forces of Brand Analytics and VKontakte to collect the necessary information. As a result, 31.5 billion posts, comments, photos, audio and video recordings were processed between January 1 and November 15, 2024.
Influencers of the Year
The most talked about name among Russian phenomena was singer Shaman, who attracted public attention with her divorce and performance at VK Fest. In second place is Basta, who is known as the artist with the largest audience of 2024, according to VK Music. Imagine: 20 million unique users became its listeners. The top three is closed by Olga Buzova, who released her new track Made in Russia and is remembered by the audience as the host of the show “Stars in Africa”.
Among foreign stars, the palm is confidently given to Lana Del Rey, who performed at the Coachella festival and got married in 2024. In second place is Billie Eilish, who released her new album in May. The top three includes Kanye West, with whom rumors about a possible concert in Russia are actively discussed.
Couples of the Year
The most talked about among Russian celebrities were Dzhigan and Oksana Samoilova, who unexpectedly got goats for their subscribers (and for themselves). Some even called them the Russian version of David and Victoria Beckham, who have their own farm. In second place were Tatiana Kim and Vladislav Bakalchuk due to divorce. Third place was taken by Pavel Durov and Irina Bolgar, who were involved in the scandal (although this description is more suitable for the ex-girlfriend of the entrepreneur).
Among the most mentioned foreign stars were Kanye West and Bianca Censori. In second place are Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, whose love ship crashed on the rocks. The third position is occupied by young parents Justin and Hailey Bieber, whose thoughts are now only about their first child (and about the scandal around P. Diddy).
Actors of the Year
Nikita Kologrivy is the name making the most headlines among Russian actors this year (not in the best way). In second place is Sergei Bezrukov, aka Sasha Bely, from the Brigade. Yura Borisov, who has not been away from social events for the last few months, received the bronze award thanks to the movie “Anora”. Among foreign actors, everything is quite clear: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jenna Ortega, who starred in the second part of Beetlejuice.

The film adaptation of “The Master and Margarita” with Yulia Snigir and Evgeny Tsyganov takes the honorable first place. The second most talked about movie of the year was “The Bremen Town Musicians” with its extraordinary cast starring Tikhon Zhiznevsky, Valentina Lyapina, Sergei Burunov and Konstantin Khabensky. “Ice 3” closed this category.
Among Hollywood projects, the sequel “Dune 2” with the participation of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya ranked first among the most talked about on social networks. “Deadpool and Wolverine” starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds received the silver medal, while Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” also ranked in the top three.
TV series of the year
The series “Combination”, about the cult pop group, ranked first. The second – the sensational series “Crime and Punishment”, starring Ivan Yankovsky in the role of Rodion Raskolnikov. And Evgeny Stychkin’s film “Games” about the preparation and organization of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow took third place.
Turkish cinema continues to be at the top. The TV series “Kingfisher” left no one a chance and came in first place. Second place went to Netflix’s live-action adaptation Avatar: The Last Airbender. The top three closes with the series “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power”, which is the prequel to the famous epic about adventures in Middle-earth.
Athletes of the Year
Kamila Valieva became the most talked about Russian athlete of 2024. In second place is Alexander Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club and three-time world champion. Another figure skater, Alina Zagitova, ranked in the top three.
World champion and eight (!) Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi ranked second here, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo behind. French football player Kylian Mbappe found himself in third place thanks to his move from PSG to the royal club Real Madrid.
Games of the Year
Helldivers 2, the shooter game that won the TIGA Awards 2024, became the most talked about game of the year. In second place is Zenless Zone Zero, an action RPG created by the developers of the popular Genshin Impact. Rounding out the top three is the role-playing action game Black Myth: Wukong, which was recognized as the game of the year according to the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards.
The one that attracted the most attention among Russian video games was “Smoot”, which was put on sale again in November with its updated version.
slang of the year
The most popular slang word of the year was “POV” (point of view). The second position is occupied by “aura” (or aura points – “aura points”), which indicate the level of luck in various situations. In the top three is “originality”: Let’s say you hear this word at least once a day.
K-pop and Anime of the Year
In the K-pop category, Stray Kids, ATEEZ and ENHYPEN came first.
Among the anime, the series about football player selections, “Blue Prison: Blue Lock”, attracted the most attention. In second place is “Seeing Friren on his last journey”, a touching story about the adventures of an elf. “My Hero Academia” only placed third.
