When Vanity Fair recently asked Charli to comment on the song, which is said to directly address the ongoing dispute between the hitmakers, Charli “declined to comment on the situation.” In fact, Romantic includes lyrics in Swift’s song that fans associate with Charli XCX’s Everything is Romantic: “You wrote me a song where you said the sight of me made you sick.”
In the song’s launch on Amazon Music, Swift said that Romantic Actually is a song about a “one-sided, hostile relationship.” Taylor also described the song as a “love letter to someone who hates you” while discussing the film A Dancer’s Life. Charli later fueled feud rumors over the weekend when she appeared on Saturday Night Live in a crop top that read “Max from Kansas City.”
Although the t-shirt featured the name of a famous New York nightclub where iconic artists and musicians performed, many thought it was actually a subtle reference to the Romantic; especially since Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.
