We are talking about profits from television screenings and DVD sales of eight Harry Potter-related films. Grint attempted to reduce his taxable income through a shell company he established in 2011. As of March 2023, its capital was over 3.6 billion in rubles.
After the tax authorities drew attention to the situation, Grint’s lawyers tried to challenge this decision in court. It was not possible to object to the claim. Tax authorities realized that Grint was trying to exploit the same loophole used by the legendary The Beatles in the 60s. To pay much lower capital gains tax instead of income tax, they formed a company and sold the music rights to it.
