Las Vegas chapels banned from using Elvis Presley image at weddings due to copyright
Licensee company Authentic Brands Group (ABG) has begun banning the use of Elvis Presley’s likeness at Las Vegas chapel weddings, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
ABG acquired the rights to the musician’s name and likeness by purchasing a majority stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises from Core Media Group in 2013. The company now plans to ban the misuse of Presley’s name, voice, and other elements of his personality in advertising, products, and services such as themed wedding ceremonies.
According to CNN, letters have been sent to some Las Vegas churches demanding that they stop using the image of the king of rock and roll at weddings, as this could be considered copyright infringement.
After the news was made public, ABG made an official statement explaining that they only want the activity to be approved.
This approach could destroy parts of the industry and deprive many people of their livelihoods, according to Clark County Secretary Lynn Goya, who led the Las Vegas wedding marketing campaign. The secretary noted that weddings in Vegas bring in two billion dollars a year, with themed weddings being one of the most popular.
Melody Willis-Williams, president of Vegas Weddings and Viva Las Vegas Weddings, also noted the need to keep the wedding industry alive in Las Vegas as she has kept the Elvis image popular to this day.
stressed.
Many celebrities got married at themed ceremonies in Las Vegas – for example, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker.
Elvis Presley’s name has been making headlines lately because of Baz Luhrmann’s biography of Elvis, which premiered at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Many famous musicians such as Eminem, Måneskin and Stevie Nicks worked on the soundtrack of the film.
