It turns out that the viral meme allegedly celebrating Nicole Kidman’s divorce from Tom Cruise was just a big lie. The 57-year-old actor revealed the truth behind the iconic 2001 photo in an interview with British GQ as part of the magazine’s Person of the Year cover story.
“This is not true,” the Hollywood star said of the popular belief that he walked out with his hands up as a sign of relief after his divorce was finalized. The photo was published by Page Six.
“It wasn’t me,” the celebrity said. “It was a quote from a movie. This was not real life. I know this image! – Nicole Kidman explained. However, she did not specify which image she had in mind.
This meme in particular made headlines in September when Jenna Dewan posted it on the banned social media site after settling her contentious divorce from ex-husband Channing Tatum.
Recall that Nicole Kidman married Tom Cruise in 1990. The couple adopted daughter Isabella and son Connor before splitting in 2001. He met actor Katie Holmes and they were married from 2006 to 2012. The artist started dating Keith Urban in 2005. The couple married in 2006 and had daughters Sunday and Faith in 2008 and 2010.
