The actors apologized to the audience for crying too much during the promotion of the movie “Wicked”. Its highly anticipated premiere took place last week at the State Theater in Sydney, Australia, and on Saturday at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. In the meantime, and as the film approaches wide release, the focus is on promoting the film through interviews, public screenings, and social media posts.
In the middle of the promotional campaign, two of the film’s stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, apologized for the tears they shed while talking about their friendship and the film. “We cried 500 times today. And obviously this is a public service announcement. I’m so sorry, guys,” Grande says in a video posted by E! News. “Whatever. There’s nothing we can do about it,” his co-star added.
Ariana Grande chimed in: “I can’t imagine, and you know what? If you’re going to comment on how frustrating it is, I’ll be the first to say it,” she said while sitting next to Erivo in the interview. “I said it first. I got angry. I am tired. “My tear ducts… I’m tired, emotionally exhausted,” the artist added. “We went through a very, very serious situation and we really stuck together,” Erivo said.
“We’re sorry. It just happens. This is happening. We can not do anything with it. We’re trying to do the best we can, but there’s a lot of emotional stuff going on and we’re just dealing with it,” Erivo also told ET.
To recap, the 2024 film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked took approximately a year to film, with principal photography beginning in December 2022 in England. However, the trial was suspended in July 2023 due to the Screen Actors Guild’s strike, but resumed after winter break that year and eventually concluded in January 2024.
