Glen Powell reveals how he got Stephen King’s approval for the role

Glen Powell admitted he had to wait for Stephen King’s approval before accepting the lead role in The Running Man. According to the actor, the writer’s decision depended on whether he liked his previous work, the film “I am not a murderer”.

According to People, the 36-year-old actor said at New York Comic Con that director Edgar Wright warned him of an important situation immediately after offering him the role. “Edgar offered me this movie and I said yes.” “By the way, you need to get Stephen King’s blessing. He’s going to see I’m Not a Hitman tonight,” Powell recalls saying later that evening.

The actor added that he could not sleep all night worrying about the outcome. “I had to wait all night for Stephen King to watch I’m Not a Hitman and still hope I’d have the part in the morning. It’s terrible,” he admitted. Luckily, the 78-year-old writer liked the movie, and Powell was officially cast as Ben Richards, a blue-collar worker who becomes a contestant on a deadly reality show.

Edgar Wright stated that he was nervous when sending the script to King. “You know, Stephen King is like the most famous English teacher in history. I thought, ‘It’s so frustrating to hand in his homework,'” the director said. According to him, the writer liked the script and gave the green light to the project.

Wright said the new version of the film will be closer to the 1982 original but will retain elements from the 1987 cult classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. “We’re paying homage to both the book and the old movie, but reimagining the story from a 21st century perspective,” he explained.

By the way, Tom Cruise previously mentioned Glen in a new interview. The actor said that the star of the romantic comedy series “Nobody But You” will not be able to run. Read more about this here.
