53-year-old Halle Berry has long been recognized as a public favorite, but this is not enough for her. The actress still has not received the main award for her work.
Holly is upset that she didn’t win the Oscar for Best Actress. “I’m still incredibly upset that I didn’t get the support for the Oscar. I get upset about it every year,” Berry told Marie Claire.
And it’s not just a matter of personal ambition. Berry feels bad for all black actresses. She pointed to Andra Day’s Oscar-nominated performances in The United States vs. Billie Holiday and Viola Davis’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom as two examples of Oscar-worthy performances. This isn’t the first time Holly has broached the sensitive subject with reporters. In an interview with Variety a few years ago, Berry also mentioned Cynthia Erivo in Harriet and Ruth Negga in Loving as other Oscar-worthy performances by black women.
