Sweden's Ministry for Foreign Affairs summoned Russia's temporary charge d'affaires on August 3 to protest Russian attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, according to the Swedish government's website.
The ministry cited the strike on Kyiv that damaged Lithuania's embassy, along with an attack on Sloviansk in Ukraine's Donetsk region that damaged Latvia's honorary consulate.
What Sweden's statement said
A press release from the ministry said the meeting condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and recent violations of allied countries' airspace by Russia. The ministry also stressed that Russia is obligated to comply with international humanitarian law.
Sweden's summons follows similar moves in recent weeks by Romania, Lithuania, Poland and India, a former ally of Russia, all over strikes that harmed their citizens or interests.
The Sloviansk and Kyiv strikes
On July 24, Russian forces dropped two aerial bombs on Sloviansk, killing five people and wounding nine, and damaging Latvia's honorary consulate. Latvia's Foreign Minister Baiba Baze informed European Union and NATO ministers of the strike. The EU's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, responded by proposing new sanctions against Russia.
On the night of July 31 into August 1, Russian forces attacked Kyiv again, killing nine people and wounding 33.
Other countries' responses
At the end of July, Romania summoned a Russian diplomat and recalled its ambassador from Russia after Romanian fighter jets shot down Russian drones over the course of three days. Poland also summoned the Russian ambassador after a missile strike hit its territory on the night of July 30.
