One of the doctors arrested in connection with the death of Matthew Perry has pleaded guilty in federal court and faces up to 10 years in prison.
The doctor’s name is Mark Chavez. He signed a plea deal to conspiracy to distribute surgical anesthesia. The Associated Press writes that an attorney spoke on his behalf.
“Matthew Perry is incredibly remorseful, not only as a star, but also as a patient, that this has happened to him. He is trying to do everything he can to right the injustice,” Chavez’s defender Matthew Binninger was quoted as saying by the publication.
On August 15, Mark Chavez and four others were arrested in connection with Perry’s death, including Dr. Salvador Plasencia, Eric Fleming, Kenneth Iwamasa and the “Queen of Ketamine” Javin Sangha. Chavez is the third person to plead guilty in the case. Iwamasa, 59, and Fleming, 54, died before him. Sangha, 41, and Placencia, 42, have pleaded not guilty.
