It is an inevitable possibility for astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams from the United States. Due to technical problems on board, they may not be able to return to Earth until 2025. The Guardian wrote, citing a statement from NASA, that their eight-day mission began in June but they have not yet returned home.
The spacecraft made its maiden flight on June 5 and successfully docked with the ISS the following day. The crew was due to return home eight days later. However, Starliner’s docking was delayed several times due to faulty engines and then a series of small helium leaks.
Engineers worked to fix the problem, and NASA said in July it was still testing the vehicle to make sure everything was working properly. By the end of July, it was announced that astronauts would remain on the International Space Station indefinitely.
If the Starliner is deemed unsafe to return to Earth, Butch and Sunita could fly home on the Crew Dragon, a possibility NASA is currently discussing with SpaceX.
In the spring, it was learned that UNESCO’s goal of sending humanity’s cultural heritage to the Moon in 275 languages was revealed. Read about it here.
