A vast study carried out by the European Commission has identified the cities in Europe where life is most pleasant and, vice versa, the least appreciated, according to the opinion of residents. Zurich has been voted the most liveable city in Europe. But the survey also ranked the places where residents feel safest walking alone at night.
And its Copenhagen which appears to be the safest metropolis, followed by Oviedo, a city in north-west Spain. In detail: Copenhagen in Denmark (87%), Oviedo in Spain (87%), Białystok in Poland (86%), Groningen in the Netherlands (86%), Zurich in Switzerland (86%), Aalborg in Denmark (85% ) %), Braga in Portugal (84%) and Luxembourg (83%).
Marseille at the bottom of the table
Denmark is clearly a peaceful country, it is also one of the most advanced in terms of gender equality. We can also observe that the inhabitants hear safer in small towns. A French city appears in this ranking, but unfortunately among the least safe cities.
In Marseille only 43% of residents feel safe when traveling at night. And women? They are less likely than men to feel safe in cities (67% versus 72%), the study notes. About them, a study taken from the magazine Current wife, published in April 2024, awarded the most female-friendly cities in France. Strasbourg reached the top of this ranking.
