Film critic Anton Dolin, who left Russia due to a special operation and currently works in Latvia, has responded to accusations of “colonial intentions towards Latvia”.
The reason for these accusations was that Anton Dolin was listed as a Latvian film critic on the international critics’ jury of Screen International magazine. Riga Film Festival countered this by issuing a statement entitled “Riga IFF Responds to Signs of Cultural Colonization Thought in Film Media”.
Dolin wrote on Facebook*.
He explained that although Meduza* writes in Russian, it has been a media organization in Latvia since its inception. The film critic emphasized that Russia is included in the Cannes accreditation and apologized to everyone he unintentionally offended:
Anton Dolin noted that the accusations against him were initiated by his colleagues from Ukraine.
Last week, the Cannes Film Festival ended in France, where journalists from Russia were not accredited in connection with the Russian military special operation in Ukraine. At the same time, the main program included the film “Tchaikovsky’s Wife” by Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov.
