After the May holidays, we are slowly returning to daily life. On June 13, 14 and 24, Mayakovsky Theater will present the play “Starling Paradox”, the premiere of the 101st season, to the audience. Irina Vasilyeva’s work will be the first production in Russia of the play “Amsterdam” by writer Maya Arad Yasur.

The story tells about an Israeli immigrant girl’s day in the Netherlands. The thoughts in his head disturb him, he is completely looking for answers to the following questions: What happened in the apartment during World War II? Is it possible to leave your roots forever and buy a house on someone else’s land?

“It seems to me that in each individual the historical past and present collide and require honest answers from him,” says director Irina Vasilyeva. The roles will be played by Yulia Marycheva, Arina Nazarova, Alina Caseeva, Ivan Kovaliunas and Oleg Sapiro.
Maya Arad Yasur is an avant-garde Israeli playwright. His play “Amsterdam” was staged in many theaters in Europe and was translated into Russian in 2018. The production was screened for the first time last year as part of the “Unlimited Reading” project.
