Spring cleaning: what are these 3 things to wash at least once a year?

It’s finally spring and with it the traditional spring cleaning returns. But where to start? And above all, what are these things/places that we tend to forget?

You didn’t miss this, Spring is here, the sky clears, the trees sprout, the change of time arrives. Well, due to the increase in temperatures, however, we will still have to be patient. And this renewal gives you desire for a great cleaning. I do it anyway, but I’m more of a slightly manic type. According to an Ebay study carried out by Ipsos, the approach of spring is synonymous with great cleanliness for 9 out of 10 French people (i.e. 88% of the population). You’ve decided to start, but you don’t know where to start. When it comes to housekeeping, organization is the key word: there are the incompressible daily tasks, those to be done every week, those every month, and finally those to be done at least once a year. At least we said it well. And spring cleaning is the right opportunity to tackle this task. Hold on.

Curtains, duvets, carpets… it’s time!

  • Curtains
Pollution, dust, stains, bad smells… curtains get very dirty. But how to wash them? First of all, look at the label, cleaning will not be the same depending on the material of the curtains. Start by sucking up the dust with the appropriate nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. As for cleaning, if the material allows it, you can immerse the curtains in a basin of hot water and use a Marseille soap. We like them natural products from Madmoizelle. You can also wash them in the washing machine on a light cycle.
  • Duvets and pillows
We don’t always think about it, but the duvet is something that also needs to be washed, at least once a year. The same goes for pillows that get dirty quickly. And let’s not talk about pillowcases which, after 7 days, according to a study, would be dirtier than the toilet seat. But this is not the point. You can put the duvet in the washing machine at a temperature between 40°C and 60°. Be careful when spinning so as not to damage the duvet.
  • The carpets
Carpets are nests for mites and microbes. And for good reason, we walk it every day. First step: the void. You can then sprinkle the surface of the carpet with baking soda and let it sit for at least 4 hours. This requires having a certain amount of sodium bicarbonate available. Then vacuum again. No more bad smells, dirt or even encrusted grease, your carpet is completely sanitized. According to Christophe Mercier, hygienist and microbiologist, interviewed by Dr. Jimmy Mohammed in a recent TikTok video, baking soda is one of the three essential products for a flawless home.
In case of stains, avoid chemical products. Among the effective natural remedies, try scrubbing the stain with sparkling water or a mixture of hot water and white vinegar. But if they’ve been there a long time, it might still be tricky to get them to leave.
