“People talk, they warn about certain practices”: Alexandra, 28 years old, tells us about her experience in the advertising sector

A woman’s journey – At 28 years old, Alexandra Puchnaty is an independent artistic director with already solid experience under her belt. She tells us about her journey, from the first creative competition she won to her period in the agency, up to her new life as a freelancer.

Every year the Mlle Pitch agency organizes the Mlle Pitch awards, a competition open to all creatives where everyone can imagine a poster and/or a digital campaign, a film, a 360° campaign or a radio commercial responding to an association’s brief. The winner will see his campaign broadcast everywhere in France, his film broadcast on French television networks or in cinemas and his commercial broadcast on Radio France.

Madmoizelle is a partner of the 4th edition of the Mlle Pitch Awards.

This is a unique opportunity offered to him and exceptional visibility for the partner NGO. We met Alexandra Puchnaty, winner in 2019. She tells us about the award and her experience in the, sometimes somewhat imaginative, world of advertising.

To miss. Tell us about the award you won with the Child’s Tears campaign for Secours Populaire.

Alexandra Puchnaty : I was still a student at that time, with Edouard Delcourt, my editor-designer, we wanted to apply for this award that would allow us both to show what we were capable of and to help an association that was close to my heart. It was an immense pride to win the jury prize, the campaign for our children’s tears for Secours Populaire benefited from enormous visibility. We couldn’t have dreamed of anything better.

How did the rest go?

Alexandra Puchnaty : Honestly, it was a huge stepping stone and I can’t thank Magali Faget of Mlle Pitch enough. When we started looking for jobs, people knew about this campaign. I was hired with Edouard for a first position as a junior AD in an advertising agency, at Fred et Farid in Paris where I worked for 3 years. I only remember the positive aspects of this experience. Séverine Autret and Olivier Lefebvre, respectively co-president and president of Fred and Farid, have placed their trust in us and entrusted us with prestigious clients. I learned a lot from them.

They say that the advertising sector is not forgiving, even more so when you are a woman, is this still the case?

Alexandra Puchnaty: It is true that this environment does not necessarily have good press. For my part, I had a very enriching experience in the agency, I never suffered from being a woman, I never felt listened to or devalued. Things have been moving for several years, people are talking, warning about some practices.

And then you finally decided to go freelance, why this change of direction?

Alexandra Puchnaty: I’m 27 years old and I feel like I need more, I conclude my experience at Fred et Farid with an incredible campaign for Delsey Paris. So I tell myself that this is the right time to renew myself and face new challenges. It is very destabilizing because, by making this choice, I leave Edouard, my partner with whom I have always worked, but I want to get out of my comfort zone. My idea is to move towards smaller structures whose values correspond to me. For example, I’m currently supporting a small responsible unisex clothing brand. It’s very exciting. But I admit that if I like the solo side for many reasons, I also miss the collective side a bit. When you’re alone you tend to constantly question yourself; you have to learn to trust yourself.

Participate in the Mlle Pitch Awards & Co

The Mlle Pitch Awards & Co return for the fourth edition. For 4 years, the Mlle Pitch agency has been offering an advertising competition open to all young creatives, freelancers, students or agency professionals. Miss Pitch highlights a different NGO every year to propose, thanks to this competition and the talent of the candidates, a national advertising campaign.

This year the Aides association is the center of attention. Since 1984 he has been fighting HIV and viral hepatitis. In his brief, Aides talks about his challenges, his approach, his communication. Through this new campaign, the association wishes to mobilize the general public to join the volunteers and, in turn, become activists in the fight against AIDS.

To have the chance to see your help campaign throughout France, nothing could be simpler! All you have to do is go to the Mlle Pitch website, fill out a form and attach your creations in zip format. So, if you are interested in this contest, focus! Whether alone or in a team, you now have until April 7 to register.
