Accused of sexual assault, but Andrew Tate jailed

He was arrested together with his brother for acts dating back to the period 2012-2015. The Bucharest Court of Appeal will rule today on the possible extension of their detention.

It would be useless to feign surprise. Self-proclaimed masculinist and misogynist influencer Andrew Tate has been arrested with his brother in Romania following the UK issuing a European Arrest Warrant. Both are accused “the commission of sexual offenses and the exploitation of people in the UK” The Romanian police reported this in a statement.

Facts dating back to 2012-2015

According to the Tate brothers’ communications team, the suspicions against them date back to 2012-2015 and fall under the jurisdiction of Westminster Court. According to the same source, the complaints “had been rejected” in 2017-2019, but they did “resurfaced” these last few months.

Andrew and Tristan Tate have “categorically rejected” these allegations and say they are “appalled and deeply disturbed”.

In April and then June 2023, four women accused the American-British businessman of rape, physical and sexual violence and coercive control. They had made known their intention to initiate civil proceedings for these facts dating back to 2013-2016, a similar period to that of the accusations that have now landed them in detention.


The McCue Jury&Partners firm, which represents the four women, said it on X (formerly Twitter). “recognizing that the British authorities have taken their customers’ fears seriously.” In fact, the government was reportedly informed last week that Andrew Tate “He may have planned to flee Romania, where he is expected to appear in another trial for rape and human trafficking.” McCue Jury&Partners then alerted the British authorities, who issued an arrest warrant. “Tate is accused of numerous serious crimes against a large number of victims and must be held accountable for these actions.” the cabinet argued in a press release.

Awaiting trial for organized human trafficking

The Tate brothers are in fact awaiting trial to be held in Romania for a different case. On June 20 they were indicted for “ organization of a criminal group, human trafficking and rape » reads a press release from the Public Prosecutor’s Office responsible for the fight against organized crime (DIICOT) in Romania. They are suspected of having formed a sexual exploitation network in early 2021 in Romania, the United States and the United Kingdom.

To deceive their victims, the Tate brothers allegedly used the method of “ lovers » which consists of making young women believe that they are in love with them to lure them into accommodation near Bucharest where they kidnap and force them “through acts of physical violence and psychological coercion” to the production of pornographic films. Arrested at the end of 2022, they spent three months in detention.

Andrew Tate has nearly nine million followers on Twitter, where he shows off, smoking cigars, showing off his muscles and his luxury cars. There he dispenses sexist theories and sells his advice to men to help them get rich. Much followed by teenagers, his name is one of the most searched for on Google.
