Yesterday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Kamila Valieva for four years (effective December 25, 2021) for violating anti-doping rules. Figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva commented on what happened.

“It’s a sad decision, but we are already used to being sad in Russian sport. I was with Camila in China when all this was happening. He was there even after the end of the games, and we were flying in the next seats on the plane from China to Moscow. I saw all the emotions inside and out. I remember how worried and angry he was at the same time, not knowing what was happening. This is not the behavior of an athlete who deliberately dopes. She will be angry that everything has come to light, she will look for people to blame, but Camila did not understand what happened,” the athlete wrote on a banned social network. Medvedeva invites readers to imagine themselves in the place of a 15-year-old athlete who has been striving all her life for her gold medal, ready to win at the Olympics and was told: “You are performing, but most likely we will too. Then I will deprive you of the medals. We wish strength to Camila!”

Let us remind you that the banned drug (trimetazidine) was found in the sample taken by Kamila Valieva in December 2021 on February 8, 2022. This became known literally the day after the end of the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics, where we remember that the Russian team consisting of Kamila Valieva won.
