The brightest moments of couture Fashion Week in Paris: Brienne of Tarth from “Game of Thrones” at the Maison Margiela show and romance on the Jean Paul Gaultier catwalk

The brightest moments of couture Fashion Week in Paris: Brienne of Tarth from “Game of Thrones” at the Maison Margiela show and romance on the Jean Paul Gaultier catwalk

Representatives of the fashion industry wait with bated breath for the second month of winter every year. And what is important here is not the beginning of a new fashion season, but the beginning of couture Fashion Week in Paris. After all, this is a symbiosis of bold design solutions and real beauty, which you can look at almost endlessly. And this week’s shows were no exception. We have collected the brightest moments in our material.

Schiaparelli and the fake child

Paris Couture Fashion Week started with a spectacular Schiaparelli fashion show. And it was like that in every sense. Hunter Schafer, Zendaya and JLo were sitting in the front row. All three it-girls wore the brand’s imagery, of course. And the latter’s coat was created from seven thousand white rose petals.

As for the collection, it was a kind of dialogue between the past and the future. Daniel Rosebery decided to dream about the technology that surrounds us everywhere. So, a dress made of microcircuits, push-button phones and calculators (by the way, they worked on it for several weeks), bizarre shapes and frame tops appeared on the podium. But the most memorable moment of the show was when Maggie Maurer walked out with a baby in her arms.

The boy wasn’t real, of course, he was welded from metal and decorated with Swarovski stones. But this fact did not affect in the least the precision with which the model carried the Toddler along the catwalk. Meanwhile, three Russian models appeared on the catwalk: Irina Shayk, Natash Poly and Tanya Churbanova.

Jean Paul Gaultier and romance

French fashion’s bad boy, Jean-Paul Gaultier, has been attracting talented industry creatives to create couture collections for several years now. Last year the honor went to Olivier Rousteing, last year to Haider Ackermann and this year to Irishwoman Simone Rocha. The designer delved into the archives of the Jean Paul Gaultier fashion house, studied them and presented his vision on the catwalk.

So Simone Rocha modified her famous sailor hat, adding corset lacing and romantic bows at the back, and hinted at the tattoo-patterned sheer organza dress from the 1994 Les Tatouages show. And there were many similar references. In the Jean Paul Gaultier collection, Simone Rocha offers corsets that easily transform into panties, cone-shaped bras that now adorn jackets, and numerous accessories that take us back to the fantastic Victorian era. In short, the joke was a success.

Maison Margiela and a lucky metro ticket

John Galliano specializes in drama. In the 1990s, when Chistian was the head of the Dior fashion house, every fashion show turned into an intricate performance and the models were real artists playing their roles. For the British designer, theater and fashion are inextricably linked, so it’s always interesting to watch him perform. For example, yesterday there was a couture performance by Maison Margiela, codenamed Artisanal (yes, this description would be more accurate). And it almost became the most discussed event of the week. As an invitation, guests were given a ticket for the Paris metro, and the show itself took place under Pont Alexandre III.

And this is a rare case when just photos of catwalk looks are not enough to feel the mysterious aura. Galliano showed guests the dark underbelly of the streets of Paris, taking them back in time and creating real drama. Meanwhile, motion designer Pat Boguslavsky worked on the production of the show. But the brightest moment came at the very end of the show, when “Game of Thrones” actress Gwendoline Christie, aka Brienne of Tarth, took to the podium.
