‘People often laugh at me’: Billie Eilish talks about living with Tourette syndrome
Billie Eilish
Netflix has released a new season of David Letterman’s show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction”, and the protagonist of the next episode is singer Billie Eilish. The main topic of conversation was life with Tourette’s syndrome – Billy was diagnosed with this nervous breakdown when he was 11 years old. Billy spoke about his diagnosis when he was at the height of his popularity in 2018, when fans noticed some unusual moments on stage and the singer had to explain what had happened to him. During a conversation with Letterman, Billy had just had a tic—one of the signs of an inborn genetic disorder: Those who suffer from Tourette’s syndrome may experience repeated motor and vocal tics throughout the day.
– agreed the singer.
According to him, tics are far from always noticeable, but “very tiring” – for example, during a conversation, the muscles of the jaw or arm may decrease, but the interlocutor will not pay attention to it.
– said the star to the journalist. Billy says he doesn’t hesitate to discuss his problem publicly because it’s an “interesting subject” and Tourette’s syndrome is much more common than it seems:
– Eilish added that among her show business colleagues, she has many acquaintances with the same diagnosis, but they do not want to draw attention to their discomfort.
