NBCUniversal recently bought land in Bedford, UK, where it can build a new theme park.
The planning process is still in its early stages and it may take some time before a final decision is made to proceed. No decision has yet been made on the creative content.
“We recently acquired land in Bedford and are in the early stages of exploring the feasibility of a potential park and resort at this site. It will be many months before we are ready to make a decision on how to proceed and we look forward to working with all relevant stakeholders and the local community,” said a spokesperson for Universal Destinations & Experiences. .
The UK makes sense because of its large population, creative industries, strong tourism and transport infrastructure and proximity to other parts of Europe. Bedford itself is well connected to London, approximately 45 minutes outside the city. The location is close to Luton Airport.
The Comcast division has expanded its offerings, including recently breaking ground on an amusement park for young children and families in Frisco, Texas. The core parks included Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, Universal Beijing Resort and Universal Studios Singapore.
