A Palestinian terrorist expected to be freed during the hostage crisis has controversially demanded that Israel pay for her cosmetic surgery after she was injured in an attack.
Asraa Jabas (38) was severely disfigured after a gas cylinder exploded in an attack in the West Bank in 2015, which also seriously injured a police officer.
She was sentenced to 11 years in prison but has twice successfully applied for funding for plastic surgery since her conviction – sparking outrage.
In the attack in the village of Ma’ale Adumim, 29 kilometers from Jerusalem, the police officer involved suffered severe burns to his face.
As news spread that she would be among the prisoners released under the deal, several victims’ groups said they would petition against her release.
According to Israeli law, Palestinian prisoners are released under an agreement, their names are published on the website of the Ministry of Justice and anyone who opposes the decision has 24 hours to file a lawsuit.

Israeli media reported that Jabas was on the list and successfully received two plastic surgery scholarships, but a third application to reconstruct her nose was rejected last year.
Officials rejected the request on the grounds that, unlike surgery on her hands, the operation was “not necessary to preserve her health.”
News reports in 2015 revealed how Jabas detonated a device near a checkpoint after injured 45-year-old police officer Moshe Chan stopped them for suspicious behavior.
When she stopped, she jumped out and shouted “Allah Akbar” before detonating a gas cylinder hidden in her pocket.
Both were taken to hospital for treatment for serious burns and Mr. Chan, who received a medal for his bravery, later expressed surprise when he learned she had requested surgery.
He said: “I have post-traumatic stress disorder and this woman who caused it is in prison, training and now applying for plastic surgery.”
“What is the conclusion now that this terrorist wants to carry out an operation?” Every man who commits an assault goes to jail, gets a diploma and looks good.
“The whole nation of Israel is harmed by these attacks, and the terrorists get the whole basket of drugs.”
“We are an excellent country, but in cases like this, where someone is in prison for assault, I just don’t understand how someone can get both a diploma and cosmetic treatment.”

The other detainees on the list are mostly men aged 18 or younger who were involved in stone throwing and rioting in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
The hard-line minister of national security, Itama Ben Gvir, who wants to introduce the death penalty for terrorists to the horror of the hostage families, rejected the agreement.

He added: “We have a moral obligation to bring them all back and we don’t have the right or the permission to agree to the idea of separating them and bringing back only some.”
Mr. Gvir continued to oppose the agreement because it did not guarantee the release of all women and children. He called it “immoral, illogical and not nearly enough” and added that it “should have been done differently”.
He continued: “Hamas wanted this ceasefire more than anything, they also wanted to get rid of the women and children in the first phase because of international pressure.”
“In return they wanted fuel, the release of terrorists and even a ban on reconnaissance flights. It has everything.”
