The Boy and the Heron is a box office success and sets records in France and Japan

Ten years separate Miyazaki’s last two films, but French viewers were there for his return. Having had the best start for a Ghibli film in Japan, The Boy and the Heron achieved the highest rating among the Wild Bunch cast.

Year after year, decade after decade, the French public never tires of Hayao Miyazaki. In Japan, where the film was released on July 14 without any promotion, the film did very well the best start in history for a Studio Ghibli film. Four months later, in France, the film was noticed for a second performance, becoming the best start in the history of Wild Bunch, distributor with a popular and prestigious catalogue.

We can only hope for the future Heron follow the flight of Chihiro, which had finally surpassed one million registrations and remains, even today, the favorite film of many spectators.
