Year after year, decade after decade, the French public never tires of Hayao Miyazaki. A week after its release in theaters on November 1, The boy and the heron recorded a radiant score at the box office, where has firmly established itself in first placein front of 3 days maximum (539,296 entries) e Paw Patrol (397,731 registrations).
Two historical records
Ten years of separation The boy and the heron From The wind picks up, released in 2014. Meanwhile, the French seem to have missed Miyazaki dearly. In total, 702 835 moviegoers were in attendance for the first week after the film’s release.
This is three times higher than the rating of The wind picks up and its approximately 258,000 viewers in 2014. The boy and the heron did even better than Enchanted which, upon its release in 2001, appealed 311.037 registrations the first week.

The start of his new film even involved a double challenge. In Japan, where the film was released on July 14 without any promotion, the film did very well the best start in history for a Studio Ghibli film. Four months later, in France, the film was noticed for a second performance, becoming the best start in the history of Wild Bunch, distributor with a popular and prestigious catalogue.
We can only hope for the future Heron follow the flight of Chihiro, which had finally surpassed one million registrations and remains, even today, the favorite film of many spectators.
