On October 28 and 29, 2023, the premiere of the comedy “Forest”, directed by artistic director Egor Peregudov, took place on the Main Stage of the Mayakovsky Theater, dedicated to the 101st birthday of “Mayakovka”.
This year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Alexander Ostrovsky. Therefore, the performance was based on his play “Forest”. In the story, two provincial artists, comedian Schastlivtsev and tragedian Neschastlivtsev, meet at the crossroads of forest paths. The road leads them to “Penki”, the estate of the rich landowner Gurmyzhskaya, where the “dark forest” is located. Young people marry old people for money, homeless women drown in love, everyone lies and no one is happy. The cast of Happy and Failed, beggars and homeless people, arrive at a wealthy estate and, against all logic, force everyone to be them.
