For great evils, great remedies? In Italy, a 75-year-old mother has just won the case against her two (grandchildren) children who refused to leave the family nest. In their forties and still employed, they contributed neither to household expenses nor to housework.
Glue pots or victims of the economic situation?
This phenomenon has a name: bambooOR ” great children » as told in Caretaker. In Italy, according to 2022 data released by the British newspaper, almost 70% of young people between 18 and 34 still live with their parents (72.6% of men and 66% of women).
But if the phenomenon is frequent, it is not necessarily pleasant. In any case, this is the experience of this Pavésane (Northern Italy) who has just obtained the expulsion of her children. It wasn’t for lack of asking him nicely, repeatedly, though. “ They didn’t want to hear anything » he told a local newspaper.
Shocked that her children were living off her without even contributing to household expenses or housework, she finally turned to justice. Rightly so: a judge from Pavia, Simona Caterbi, touched by her situation, issued an expulsion order against the two men.
The latter considered that, if parents have a “Maintenance obligation for child support”, this obligation is no longer justifiable after the age of forty. We are in solidarity.
If it is customary in Italy for several generations to live under the same roof, in recent years the number of young people who delay leaving the family home has increased: a situation that derives from the difficult economic situation and a capricious job market, according to The Guardian.
But these two children aged 40 and 42, having enough to support their lifestyle, have until December 18 to pack their bags and let their mother enjoy her retirement.
