For those who don’t want to dress up their children as big pumpkins or ghosts with an old sheet to go knock on the doors of neighbors – who probably don’t want to see you, and who will probably tell you poison with old candy: there are other options!
Like getting the blanket out of the closet, making good food and watch a slightly scary movie. Let’s stay on topic.
In this selection for the whole family, from 5-6 years old – because my goodness, don’t you think about it, no screen before this age, obviously, hmhm, in short – you will mainly find Classics of the 90s (even if we go a little beyond this decade) because parents can also pamper themselves and rekindle the nostalgia, always rather comforting, of the cult films of their childhood.
Mr. Jack’s Strange Christmas

This 1993 animated film has everything we love about Halloween: a gothic universea fantasy world – it is Tim Burton to write anyway! – and there are the monsters you want: demons, ghosts, zombies, vampires, witches, werewolves… and so on!
The plot is set in Halloween Town, it cannot be invented. Rest assured, as a bonus there is a beautiful love story.
Jurassic Park

A classic among classics, this film Spielberg of 1993 marked our childhood. Some small scary scenes but they are still dinosaurs so they shouldn’t traumatize your child too much!
Some will say that the special effects they have aged poorly, but this is not unanimous. I’ll let you form your own opinion. Special mention for: legendary soundtrack by John Williams.
The Goonies

The Goonies, a cult film, is a little older. It dates back to 1985. If you missed it, it’s time to catch up! Let’s follow a gang of kids to whom several adventures happen. The adventures will delight you as much as your children.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Break out the shock tablets for this other classic Tim Burton. It goes a little beyond the 90s period and isn’t very scary but it would be a shame to miss this masterpiece, adaptation of the fantastic novel by Roald Dahl.
It finds Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka and Helena Bonham Carter as Charlie’s mother. A delight to consume without moderation!
Casper, the ghost apprentice

In this 1997 film, little Chris, passionate about science fiction, creates a beautiful relationship with a very friendly ghost, Casper. But not all ghosts are good guys in this movie and the twists will keep coming.
To watch while eating Monster Munch, for example!
The Addams Family

How many memories will resurface watching this cult film, later transformed into a saga!
Introduce your children to the unlikely personalities and looks of Fetid, Morticia, Gomez, The Thing (in its simplest form)… And above all, watch the original and avoid the 2019 version with Kev Adams.
The Gremlins

This 1984 film continued to be seen into the 90s. Proof is my first memory of a horror film!
I don’t remember much except these small monstrous creatures who appear out of nowhere and go seriously crazy. On Netflix it says 13 and up, but let’s not exaggerate.
ghost Buster

ghost Buster…When you think about this film you immediately want to sing the theme song! No, right?
We follow three colleagues from New York who put all their effort into it ghost hunting. It’s so nice to see Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver in their quasi-debut…
Cockroach juice

Let’s meet Tim Burton again for this one fantastic comedy which features two ghosts, two recently dead newlyweds who come to haunt their old house.
Hocus Pocus

Yes, there are witches so we love it! Best of all, this 1993 film is set on Halloween night, so what more could you ask for? Well, we have a little fear and a lot of humor. Winning combo.
