The conversion of Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel into a Pixar-themed hotel will be complete and open on January 30, 2024, Disney announced today.
The Pixar Place Hotel will be the “first fully Pixar-themed hotel in the United States,” according to Disney, which also released artistic renderings of the hotel’s rooms and lobby. The hotel renovation is adjacent to the portion of the property that Disney plans to expand with DisneylandForward, the company’s 30-year plan for expansion and innovation in the region. The plan promises the “diverse, integrated experiences that theme park visitors are now looking for.” In other words, mixed use, with rides and a little Disney magic.
“Pixar Place Hotel will reflect the inspiration and humor of each Pixar film while celebrating the artistic process,” Disney said. “From early sketches to final design, the art and decor highlight vibrant Pixar storytelling and reveal some never-before-seen artwork.”
The lobby, as shown in an artist’s rendering, will be centered around a giant version of the iconic Pixar lamp balanced on top of the ball, with a mobile on top featuring popular Pixar characters. According to Disney, the phone will “represent the early stages of Pixar’s filmmaking, in which animators create the characters’ designs using their most basic shapes and colors.”
Disney officials noted that the hotel already has some Pixar-themed elements, such as outdoor fire pits modeled after “hot-headed Pixar characters” and the Stor-E store.
Guestrooms will also feature a version of the iconic lamp, as well as headboards created using concept art from various Pixar properties, including The Incredibles And Toy story 3which are arranged from warm to cool colors.
The roof has one Finding Nemo-Themed toddler pool and pool. The Pixel pool is lined with lounge areas on the deck, as well as Nemo’s Cove, a Pop-jet splash guard. The main attraction for kids will likely be Crush’s Surfin’ Slide, a 180-foot water slide inspired by the cool character from the film. An adjacent playground and pool bar will open later this fall.
According to Disney, the hotel’s Great Maple restaurant will open on the ground floor, followed a few weeks later by Sketch Pad Café and rooftop pool bar Small Bytes.
Artist renderings of the DisneyForward plans, although conceptual, show a large development west of the current parks near the future Pixar Point and (now) Disneyland hotels, as well as another southeast of California Adventure. Both properties are currently primarily intended as parking.
“Today, hotels, theme parks, shops and restaurants are part of an immersive experience. “Guests expect the future of entertainment to seamlessly connect all applications in ways that were difficult to imagine more than 25 years ago,” the company said in a statement earlier this year.
Last month, the media giant unveiled a sweeping plan to double its investment in theme parks to $60 billion over the next decade.
